What lock-picking tools do you need to pick a lock

2023-08-08 08:52

The tools you need to pick a lock depend on the type of lock you are trying to pick. Generally, all you need to pick a lock is a few picks (long, thin pieces of metal with different shaped curved ends for different types of locks) and a tension wrench. You can use a paper clip as a pick in a pinch, and a tension wrench can be any tool used to generate tension, including a flathead screwdriver.

One of the most common (and easiest to pick) locks is a cartridge lock, which is a type of cylinder lock. Most deadbolts use cylinder locks. To pick a bullet lock, place the tension wrench into the keyhole and turn it like a key. When applying pressure, lift the pin one at a time with the pointed needle. You should hear or feel a click every time the pin falls into place.

Wafer pin locks are easier to pick. It works like a pin glass, but its glass is chip shaped instead of pin shaped. Disc locks have wider keyholes, which means it's easier to fit a tension wrench into them. Tubular locks are more difficult to pick because they all have pins inside the lock.

Raking is a less precise method of unlocking a lock, where you insert a wider pointed pick all the way to the back of the lock and then pull it out quickly while turning the tension wrench. Some of the pins will fall into place; Some of the pins will fall into place. You can then individually select the remaining pins. When using an electric pick gun, the pick vibrates when the gun is turned. It's a bit like picking a lock. The concept of picking locks is simple, but it takes some practice to get good at it.

Why Can Locks Be Picked?
Nothing is perfect. No product can be free of flaws or different from the ideal design. Everything is designed with tolerance in mind. No two locks, pins or springs are the same. They will always differ in some way from one another and from their original design.

It is due to these defects in production that we are able to manipulate and bypass the lock. During the production of the plug, the key pin chamber is drilled along an imaginary center line so that they line up perfectly with each other. But then again, nothing is perfect. There are some variations between each drilled hole and the true centerline and each hole.

The quality of the lock is largely determined by the quality and care with which it is drilled. Cheaper locks are usually more varied between holes than higher quality locks. In any case, the change could be as small as a thousandth of an inch. However, it is because of this tiny distortion that we gain the ability to pick locks.
