How to Pick a Master Lock

2022-12-06 08:41

Suppose you lose the key to Master's lock, since that "misunderstanding" years ago, no one in town will sell you a blowtorch. So, what's the next easiest way to pick a Master lock? The easiest way to pick a Master lock is by tilting. This is done by first tensing the core and using a lock to bump all the pins into the shear line. Master Locks can also be opened using a variety of temporary tools, including paper clips, hair clips, soda cans and even chicken bones. Don't worry if some of it doesn't make sense. I'll explain and walk you through it in the steps below! At the end of this guide, you'll learn the basics of picking a lock and how to pick a Master lock, as well as some other methods that don't require a lockpicking tool!

Lock pick
The purpose of the latches is to move the internal components (pins) into the correct position. There are a number of different types of Lockpicking Tools available, but by far the best and easiest tool to use on a Master lock is a rake.

Tension wrench
The second tool we need is a tension wrench. The purpose of this tool is to apply a slight rotational force to the lock core. This will allow us to hold the pins in place and allow us to turn the core and unlock the lock once all the pins have been knocked into place. Below is an example of a standard wiper tension wrench, as well as a paper clip and hairpin replica. With your tools ready, it's finally time to choose Master locks!

Paper clip
First, there are the paper clips, which actually work well on Master's wide open key slots. You will need two paper clips to pick Master locks -- one for your tension wrench and the other for your lock picker. A set of needle-nose pliers will also help, however, you can leave without them, but it will be painful.

To make the tension wrench, take a paperclip and unbend all the loops except for one at the bottom. Then, bend the flat end of the paper clip until it makes a 90-degree angle with the rest of the paper clip. To make the single-pin pick, unbend half of a second paper clip. Bend the flat end of the paper clip so it goes slightly upward.

The difference between a regular lock and a master lock is that the master lock has an extra pin in some pin pairs, called the master chip or gasket. When the replacement key is inserted into the lock, the top of the primary chip is raised to the level of the shear line, but the top of the bottom pin is also raised to the level of the shear line when the primary key is inserted into the lock. To pick a universal lock, you must lift the latch up with the pry piece until you hear a click indicating that the latch has reached the shear line; Then turn the screwdriver in the keyhole like a key.
