How to Pick a Lock with Household Items

2022-06-28 08:44

What household items can you use to pick a lock? How do you make a lock pick at home? If you are interested in, please keep reading!

Make sure you have the right to pick the lock. If the problematic lock is not connected to your own home, please obtain the owner's permission before proceeding. Breaking and entering is a crime!

Use household items to make lock pickers. Hair clips or barreons work best, but you can also use a heavy-duty paper clip or other hard thread. First create your selection by opening one of the hairpins or paper clips until it is straight. Then bend the last 1/8" of the pickup at a 20 degree Angle.

If you're using a hairpin with plastic dipped in the end, use pliers, the floor, and even your teeth to scrape off the plastic at the end of the tip in a pinch.

Make a tension wrench. Grab another bobby pin, or open a paper clip and fold it in half, then bend it into an L shape. Tension wrenches need to be fairly sturdy, so be sure to use heavy-duty paper clips or hairpins. You can also use a small flat-head screwdriver, or a similar item that fits into the bottom of the keyhole as a tension wrench.

Use your tools to pick locks. The tension wrench is first inserted into the bottom of the lock and then applied by turning it in the direction the key is unlocked. Maintain this tension throughout the process. Then gently swing the pry plate up and down to the top of the lock. You should hear a series of clicks as the pins in the lock are lifted. When you successfully lift all the pins, the tension wrench will suddenly turn freely and unlock the door.

Most locks can be opened in seconds, but it takes a little practice. If you feel frustrated, take a deep breath and start again.
This technique also works with many tongues and padlocks.
Unlocking the lock in this way looks very suspicious and may cause your neighbors to call the police. If you're a kid, call your parents before you start to let them know what's going on and be prepared to show the police evidence that you're breaking into your own home, garage, etc.
